Maybe its because February is the month for love and Valentine's Day is just a few days away. I don't know what it is, but there have been moments in each day that I am over come with love for Syler, to the point where I just want to burst. At that moment, I just have to kiss him on the cheek, give him a little squeeze, and whisper in his ear "I love you so much." Lately, I often find myself saying to him "I love you so so much you will never really know just how much." In addition to feeling overwhelming amounts of love for Syler, I have been feeling so very blessed to have such an amazing little boy. I have been ceasing every moment of every day with him. I am thoroughly enjoying watching him grow and learn. I just can't get enough of him.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 241px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMUYTdztuM65KnLAt2RXuEFZ7heN_ACNx0B_-v3REIEYlNjGh993Ba3crSvmx_Fadz_HvhsE2hGxXj8u2DthpPBIpEl4-uyv6YCNI0tUIlbrivi3a-DM1fkC-6tGBIO0K6YSBZuvzbDKmN/s320/photo-1.jpeg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5572628721673263522" />Sarah B.http://www.blogger.com/profile/13989700723759907138noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6051590011454624962.post-20922552986998727672011-01-08T19:33:00.000-08:002011-01-08T19:51:39.922-08:00Snow fun!<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXvCqUw6GBBl3xao6puMWTwY1iAly_UUITsZQBXk45CwjrgNhvp_-5KUFUmUWoIoxP7Cj6F7eHWNIcVziAst2nkfElithfjjFuKqRILGeSLI2e0luIK_Ihv6mYEH0EELrmfjlpKTuYVOGh/s320/IMG_2566.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5560027561572945458" />
I have been looking forward to the first real snow fall of the year because I was anxious and excited to take Syler out to play in the snow. But, for this Christmas instead of dealing with all the hustle and bustle of visiting family, we decided that we were going to stay home, have our traditional Christmas breakfast and lounge for the rest of the day. Every chance he gets he will grab it, bite it, or throw it in the toilet. It was the first thing he went to in the morning when he woke up and we took him out of his crib. More recently, Syler has started a new interest, and that is flushing the toilet, running around to the front, lifting the lid up, watching the water then letting the lid slam down. For fear of his fingers getting smashed under the crushing lid, Miguel and I decided to purchase a toilet safety lid and secure the toilet lid. Syler didn’t like that very much so he turned his attention back to the toilet paper, and well, I will let the pictures tell the rest of the story.

<img style="display:block; After hemming and hawing for a couple weeks about getting his hair cut, we decided it was time. We didn't want to get it cut because we like the long hair look on him. He looked cute with long hair. But, our decision came after we took Syler to get his picture take (the one you see in your Christmas card) and we realized that his hair style was no long cute, but MESSY..... So, we ended taking him to my hair stylist, Becca. She did a great job. Syler on the other hand, had his moment of terror (but nothing a lolly pop couldn't fix). Here are the pictures of our adventure.

Before....
<img style="display:block; It's been a while....First off, I want to say that I am sorry I have not put a post up in a very long time. I guess you can say that I fell off the face of the earth, or just that I have been busy and kind of didn’t feel like writing. But any who, I am back and will be posting on a regular basis.

A lot of things have been going on lately. Most recently was Syler’s 15 month child wellness check-up and vaccines. Our big boy is just that….big. He is in the 90%-ile for height, 50% for weight, and 75%-ile for head circumference. He is growing so fast, it is unbelievable and amazing all at the same time. Before you are a parent and those of who are parents say to you “they grow so fast ” you kind of just nod, smile and say yeah I hear ya. Not really understanding the meaning of what they are saying. Well, not until you have children of your own, then your say “Oh my god, I can’t believe how fast they really do grow”.
Well, I know I have said this during Syler’s other stages of development, but I am loving this stage. It’s like exploring and learning about the world all over again, but through a toddler’s eyes. It’s absolutely wonderful.

So, Syler is a maniac. He is constantly on the move. He is running around the house, touching things, findings things and getting into trouble. He is at the point where he will touch something or grab something he knows he is not suppose to have and he will say “no no no”. Sometimes it is hard not to laugh at that ☺. It’s amazing how much they understand at this age and how fast they learn. It is constant learning, observing, absorbing. Still, one of my absolute favorite things is that Syler still loves to read. Syler will pick out a book and come plop himself in my lap and want to read. I LOVE it!!!!

Exploring is one thing that I think Syler really enjoys, and eating toilet paper (that will be my next post). He is constantly touching, tasting, looking and smelling. He just recently figured out how to smell and now he wants to smell everything. Oh and another first, about a month ago he learned how to suck out of a straw. He was just fascinated by this and did it non-stop. Teething is one thing that we are not enjoying. At this very moment, Syler has 5 teeth cutting through. Four of them are molars and the fifth is his lateral incisor. He is his normal self throughout the day, but when it comes to naps and bedtime, he just cries, cries, cries. Breaks my heart because I know he is in pain and there really isn’t much that I can do to help him. It’s just all part of being a baby and having a child.

Well, here are a few pictures from the past couple of months. Enjoy!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8A3lt4cqz8IF-ND3-9AqSf-GoE7IioIahIG2YZN880rjpkRonqQxI0j2LcutRuPMxfMD2UfRXDKitaQNOXeKFOmQZV3kIEIFFC6UMnbh0JTx0arzCofaXf7GSVRwV_TrDGHWzL-i-HMy0/s320/IMG_2417.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5552578887598289202" /> Hanging out on the cat's scratching post.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj46Ab2j9uj6bDvgVI3FYp1TkOjEpZkpNQdOZdmz-LN39rQouMVrONTVqmeiiw2l385i5-pUeAS_U-h7oP2DyNonjizIeAw54OPBT3OuRATQuADJzvm2HhJNiAFkw1__9Loe_drBNPDGd2C/s320/IMG_2358.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5552578879913251618" /> Giving Oscar some lovin.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2ljiRHVsINbbWPMyLl0n9D5DcznD-eGcn6rsT18oEd1PYsaB1NR3bKLIZOCRnCu-1ZwBi96bYLJa2tRpjtEmPfFSrQ5JEyZKcdwyKDojdoqOXbStXQFADelvXRw-Uuk0w1Gxm6LC6YK-e/s320/IMG_2355.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5552578875677875266" /> Trying on Daddy's shoes.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjP67Aijv4W5Dy39vXNSKjxGD9ovAIHKIOHrjP4J5oOv2YdHB6VrhQj4WYpsicVZXh9KaTERCYpPjQjE_opschM5H7DA4SAmiEVUynD3_pRXmDGsBBiDFAuvrUtCUpZKjYw6LgNdWbtNytK/s320/IMG_2352.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5552578867375375330" /> He loves Oscar.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqQDjlYZh2TG2uEkAbHuEKXGCE9Os0O-V596lVZV-xGVYWs8yem0ZylUC-TuUuvzh3Y1YaZNz2ssi68Ajz9DGbQ_xscH-RSkTPgCy63hcqZjHpAME6CWILMeUUKXDFNNn_AD2DZyzZDaOv/s320/IMG_2288.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5552578861554268514" /> A little blurry, but hanging out at his buddy Jacob's 1st birthday party.Sarah B.http://www.blogger.com/profile/13989700723759907138noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6051590011454624962.post-63185553174421295772010-10-06T18:56:00.000-07:002010-10-06T19:22:42.109-07:00Hay ride & pumpkin huntingThis past Saturday was the first Saturday Miguel has had off in a very long time. So, as a family we decided to take advantage of it. We decided to go to Randall's Farm to take Syler on his first hay ride and go pumpkin hunting. (also include 12 & 13 months)

I have to say that out of the 14 months that Syler has been with us, this stage of development and age are my favorite right now. He is sooooo much fun!!!!!! He is always making me laugh and smile. I fall more and more in love with him every day.
So what has my little monkey been up to these past couple of months? Here it is.

~ New:
• He is walking! He started walking around his first birthday, which was just exciting! Everyday he is getting faster and faster. He is just shy of running. Its quite funny because he will start to walk REALLY fast then his feet will get all tangles and he will fall.
• Crawling. Syler learned how to crawl the right way after he learned how to walk.
• Talking, well actually a lot of gibberish and mumble jumble. This is so cute! He will make great eye contact with you and will talk as if he is having a conversation with you. When he is excited about something, he talks really fast, will he gets red in the face and has a hard time getting his gibberish out .

- Word interpretation:
Baba = bird
Maa = Max
Daw = dog
Naa = nice
Brroooommmm = car

- Words: Mama, Dada, boom, dum

• Music! This kid loves music. Seriously considering getting him into a music class for children his age. Every time he hears music, whether on the radio, t.v., computer or from one of his toys he immediately starts dancing. His dancing, I must say, has improved too. He also does this new thing while dancing. He will start dancing and then throw his head back. I will try to get this on video because it is super funny and cute.
• Shaking his head back and forth as if saying no. This is a new thing for him. He started doing this about two weeks ago. He will do this mostly while standing, and when he does, 99% of the time he falls down. We think he does this because he is discovering what “dizzy” is.
• Mimicking mom and dad. Whether it is facial expression, noises with our mouth or how we say a word, he will mimic it.
• He brings books to me to read to him. So cute because he will carry a book over to me then plop himself in my lap. I love that. He will also turn the pages for me while we read together.
• Understanding commands/questions. Here some statements he understands and will do: 1). Flush the toilet, Syler. Can you flush the toilet please? 2). Get Mr. Bear or Where is Mr. Bear. 3). Time to brush your teeth. 4). Come here Syler. 5). Daddy’s home! 6). Where are the birds? Can you/do you see the birds?
• Showing affections. This is my absolute favorite!!!! This is a fairly new thing for Syler. He will unexpectedly give kisses or hugs, which is just the absolute best! He will also give kisses if asked. He also shows affection to his stuffed animals, mainly Mr. Snuv.

It’s amazing how fast they learn things. Their brains really are like little sponges. Its awesome!

~ Like:
• Of course his all time favorite thing is still Mr. Bear. He brings Mr. Bear everywhere and sleeps with him. Also, he is at the point where if we don’t bring it with us somewhere he doesn’t even notice, but gets excited when he is reunited with Mr. Bear.
• Green car. He has this green push car that he got for his birthday and he loves it. He loves going for walks in it, beeping the horn and just chillin in it.
• He also enjoys sitting in his Pottery Barn Anywhere chair, which was also a gift for his birthday. He will play with books and stuffed animals while sitting in it.
• Exploring! He is constantly exploring his surroundings; touching, picking up things, putting things into his mouth, etc.
• Loves being outside! That is just a whole new world to him.
• The cats and Max. This is where is he practicing his naaaaa (nice). Whenever the cats are around him he becomes intrigued with them. When he pets them he gets a huge smile on his face and giggles a little. Max is getting more and more use to him. Just the other day, Max actually let Syler pet him on the head a little instead of immediately running away. So that is a huge improvement!
• Playing with other children. Even though Miguel and I are working on providing him with opportunities to play with other children, it doesn’t happen as often as we would like. But, when he does have other children to play with, he gets very excited and happy. This is another are we are working on nice.
• Putting everything and anything in his mouth. Anything from dog food to dirt to lint balls.
• Shoes. Mainly mommy’s shoes. He enjoys putting them in his mouth.
• The lint roller. He absolutely loves playing with the lint roller and putting it in his mouth.
• Cottage cheese. Loves it!

~ Dislikes:
• Being told no. Well, not really being told no, but being prevented from doing something he wants to do or having something he really wants, which is usually something he is not suppose to have. At this point, he will scream, cry and sometimes sit or throws himself on the floor with his face in his lap usually doing the first 2 things mentioned. Kind of like a mini tantrum.
• Being barked at by large/dinosaur dogs. Recently, Syler and I went to a friend’s house and she has a rather large chocolate lab named Spencer. I call him a dinosaur because he is just that huge. Well, Spence wanted to play with Syler, so in his loudest bark, barked at Syler. At this point, Syler poops his pants, immediately starts crying/screaming and rans to me. Syler would not go within 2 feet of Spencer for the rest of the time we were there.
Syler also had his 1 year old Child Wellness visit in August. He is in the 90th percentile for height, 50th percentile for weight (at the time he weigh 23 lbs), and his head circumference is measuring average. He did get 3 vaccine shots this time, but handled it really well.

Lastly we are just loving every minute of watching him grow, explore and learn. :-)Sarah B.http://www.blogger.com/profile/13989700723759907138noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6051590011454624962.post-11352882214260104772010-08-16T20:06:00.000-07:002010-08-22T20:40:08.584-07:00Our time to try Cry It Out.A few weeks ago, Miguel and I decided that it was finally time to move Syler to his crib (he had been sleeping in his bouncer for the past couple of months), which meant that we were going to have to implement the Cry It Out sleep training method. Like many other mothers, I morally, emotional, and instinctively struggled with this idea. But, I knew that I was ready, well more ready, as was Syler, to implement it now as opposed to a few months back when Miguel and I initially discussed implementing this method. So, last week we decided our first night was going to be Sunday (last Sunday). We both knew that we were going to be sleep deprived and that it was going to be a LONG and tough road, so we figured Sunday would be the best start night because Miguel would have the next 3 days off, so I would have him as additional support for me and Syler. I wouldn't have been able to do this on my own (I know because I tried to and I lasted a half hour before giving in). And THANK YOU to Miguel for being so understanding of my tears/fears, supportive and a huge distraction to help keep me occupied. I wouldn't have been able to do it without him by my side. I also owe a big thank you to Cori G. and Kim P. for distracting me for a little while during night one.

~ Night One:
The first night was horrible. There were tears shed by both Syler and myself. It was extremely difficult to listen to him cry; to not pick him up and hug him when it was my turn to go in and quickly "comfort" him; and to hear his cry "mama" over and over again. Syler ended up screaming, crying, whimpering, and whining for 5 hours. There were short periods of silence, where we thought we were in the clear, just to hear moments later more crying. It was a long 5 hours. We both didn't think it was going to take that long. But, he did eventually go to sleep and so did we. That is not to say that we did get a good nights sleep though. All three of us woke up multiple times throughout the night. For Syler, we knew why, but for Miguel and I, not quite sure. So come Monday, all three of us were tired.

~ Night Two:
For some reason, I was dreading the second night more than I did the first. Maybe it was because we had a rough first night and I knew what was in store for us for night two. I don't know, but I did. So, Syler and I went through his normal, every night bed time routine. His routine consists of a snack, bath, books, then bed. I have been doing this routine with Syler for months. 7:50-8 o-clock rolled around and it was time. Miguel gave Syler a good night kiss and off I took him to bed. As I stood in front of his crib giving him a hug and a kiss, he knew what was coming. He immediately started crying. I tucked him in and left. Miguel and I changed the intervals of how often we go in for the second night. Night two was 5, 10, 15, 20 minutes and so on. But, we only made it to 20 minutes. At the 20 minute mark, Syler was calm, laying down, and ready to sleep. And, that was the last time we heard a noise from him. He went a whole hour before he made a few "fussy" noises/cries for a few seconds and then we went back to sleep. I would have to say that night two was a success. But......... did it last?

~ Night Three:
YES!!! It did last. Night three was just as easy as night two. He fussed for maybe an hour this night, but went to bed and slept all night long. He didn't wake until 8-8:30. I was very surprised that he slept the whole night, but it was nice to get a goods night sleep with no interruptions.

We also implemented CIO for naps, but we didn't need to do very much. On day four we put him down for a nap and within 10 minutes (10 minutes of fussing and crying) he went to sleep. Now he has no problem going down for naps. Bedtime is a little bit of a different story. He still cries and fussy for about 20 minutes or so. But, its a lot better than bouncing him for an hour or more in his bouncer and getting up 2-3 times/night. And just to let you know, the bouncer has been packed away for good (or until #2).Sarah B.http://www.blogger.com/profile/13989700723759907138noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6051590011454624962.post-40240622842154490572010-08-04T11:49:00.000-07:002010-08-04T12:09:06.955-07:00Syler is walking!!!!!!!!!!!It's official!! One year ago today you came into my life and turn my world upside down (in a good way that is). This day has come faster than I have expected or wanted. You are no longer my little baby, but my little man. When I look back through the year, I am reminded of all the things you have taught me. But, the one thing that really stands out and I am constantly reminded of every time I look at your beautiful blue eyes, is that there is a love out there like no other. I felt this love for you the minute I laid eyes on you when you were born. This is a love only a parent can feel and understand.

It has been an absolute joy and an adventure to watch you grow and learn. To go from a little premie baby weighing only 5 pounds 15 ounces to a little walking giant is amazing and wonderful. I will be honest, I do miss the days where you would just fall asleep on my chest as a little baby, but I am definitely looking forward to watching you grow, learn, and experience life.

I have loved every minute, every second of this past year. I have loved watching your relationship with daddy grow, and the look daddy gets in his eyes when he looks at you. I have loved walking into your room every morning being greeted with a smile. I have loved, oh gosh, there are so many memories and things that I loved about this past year, that I cannot list in this letter.

My love for you grows every day and I am incredibly blessed to be your mother. I don't know what the next year or the next 20 years has in store for you, for us, but I simply can't wait to find out.

Lastly, I will promise you this. I will love you unconditionally, keep you safe, watch over you, and take care of you until the day that I no longer on this earth.

I love you with all my heart, soul and being. Happy birthday my little monkey.

Love always,
Mommy

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUYcAorB4k4pcH5LYqTeXHe7qpxJXIrmRs54xckoLNNDMLbTgNlyCj1T6W5Hb93Scnbjrb-FUr6SjZQljMkcfe-_YtHFoaGsbyD0WZOjjNqGgjuTqEQZKyD4fhooZISYIo1VXhkrAKFROX/s320/IMG_1677.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5500988684068669074" />Sarah B.http://www.blogger.com/profile/13989700723759907138noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6051590011454624962.post-71232324072816081132010-07-04T10:04:00.000-07:002010-07-04T11:19:57.752-07:0011 months old!!!!<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEell6_FruykIAkjy-anpzIXPXUxkH9azV9IGVxyi2KqpjYAvRUqvS7pfi5SUNcyANlmvpsY23II5neNgN2Ydhzz6rsl0ac6TUd7THoVsPQdvNiuqmcN_PaJc9TqRnMur0Req7nfu-stO8/s320/IMG_1460.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5490099589499984098" />

I have to start out by saying that this past month just FLEW by. Syler has grown so much, developmentally and physically, this month. It’s just crazy. What is my little man up to these days.

Well, these past two weeks I have been on vacation, so Syler, Miguel and I have taken a lot of day trips, not vacationy day trips, more like trip to get things on our to-do-list. Oh, and we had taken a trip to visit the soon-to-be parents (The Carders) for lunch. In addition to these day trips, Syler and I have gone to a local lake and dairy farm. He absolutely loved the lake and enjoyed watching the cows at the dairy farm. He also enjoyed the non-vacationy day trips as well.

This past month had also brought along Syler’s first real illness. Syler was very sick over a few days with his temperature hitting a high of 104.4 and a call to the pediatrician at 3:30 in the morning. We ended up taking him to the doctors and was told he was fighting a virus, possible had strep throat, and was in the early stages of dehydration. If Syler didn’t give us one or two wet diapers by the time 7 o-clock came on the day we took him to the doctors, we were going to be taking a trip to the ER. Miguel and I were never so happy to change a wet diaper. After about 4 or 5 days, Syler was back to his normal self.

~ Likes~
• Mr. Bear (obviously)
• Dogs- mainly dogs that will tolerate hair pulling , gentle hitting and climbing. Syler especially liked Spencer. Spencer is a chocolate lab (dinosaur). Syler recently officially met (met to where he actually cared about this LARGE creature walking around) Spencer and just couldn’t get enough of him. I didn’t have my camera this time, but I will get pictures the next time they spend time together. Now don’t get me wrong, Syler loves Max, but Max is still too scared to let Syler play on him.
• Wires, paper, plastic and anything else that he is not allowed to play with.
• Yogurt: He can’t get enough of it.
• Mimicking: He loves to mimic what others do.
• Playing with other kids. Which tells me I need to get him involved in some type of social group.
• Water: No matter if it is his bath, the lake or his pool, he LOVES playing in the water.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEja3AlNabMqB7-Es5RmYeFaDvVFFt0e0SfcWZ7e8h62eT-F44ylmlHNcJFUaf58X2fAlAMWaF7KcqTDDYlSYb6od_hCeeXlaoZARjNArwdTsumrqJU-ReiNDI9FpSS1xjH1Zph5XnhnjFIe/s320/IMG_1455.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5490099584816322706" />

~ Dislikes~
• Laying down- This kid hates it, which makes diaper changes very difficult. We are constantly searching for things for Syler to play with to occupy him while having his diaper changed.
• Having his faced cleaned/washed- He continues to hate this, but now he fights back a little bit. He know that when the bib comes off, its time to clean his face. At this point he will start to whine, block his face with his hands and pushed your hands away even before you make contact with him.
• Hanging out in his pack-n-play or crib for that matter.
• Having his hair washed. The instant I put my hands on his head to wash his hair, he is trying to remove them.
• Shoes: Syler hates to wear them. He tries to take them off. When he tries to walk in them he looks like a cat walking with tape on it’s feet. Or he will stick his butt out and refuse to walk.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLzW7oWxPwTi5G45FZaIeIbRuJ_2cTG19GBg1FSjT9mrObxrwAlnEm71L3D6lzqKwEDCmsR6bKx-l4iCSW5ygiqYzxsYEmZCXbm9alaA_4grBSARRiLZ697giBsmVa_rsbgiN7Vj5QpmAt/s320/IMG_1449.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5490099578634328706" />

~ New~
• Walking: Syler has improved so much in this area. He is still a little too unstable to walk by himself, but he has gotten adventurous and brave. There will be times where he will just let go of your hands and attempt to walk on his own. He may get one or two steps in before he plops onto his butt. Miguel and I practice with him all the time. We will sit, facing each other, a few feet apart and let him walk between us. Syler has taken up to 8 steps while walking from me to Miguel.
• Crawling: Its not actually crawling. Syler does more of the army crawl, which is super cute.
• Clapping- So cute. Syler will clap when he gets excited or his you say “YAY!!!!!”
• Waving- This is Syler’s new favorite thing to do. He waves hello and goodbye, and loves to wave at anybody, which a lot of recipients find adorable.
• Sitting up on his own- Syler has finally figured out how to sit up.
• I believe that Syler has officially made the association between mama and dada. I believe that he knows I am mama and Miguel is dada.
• Talking- We are hearing a lot of different sounds coming from Syler’s mouth. Lately, he has been making this sound like he is a monsters. It is too funny.
• TEETH- We finally have teeth. Syler has an incisor coming in on the bottom and one on the top. He is constantly touching them with his tongue and or finger. It’s cute because some times, I think, he takes my finger and rubs the tooth with it just to be like “Look mama, I got teeth!” Also, I must say that so far (knock on wood) this teething process hasn’t been that bad. I just pray it stays that way.

Moment of the month: I love watching how excited Syler gets when his Dada comes home from work. He can barely contain himself.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQddKuxN4fBpFXw8Vr88gxuHnEdM9_O1-r5Gku_LPkF72sJk_pPQF3FMEphI4BAMPAbrx1acz43Wjggn_Z4I0pWnGdOygihfQ_-hieWAx3EAAIWMo-s6HMJtyqn9WLwlXeXavGNJWRcFWO/s320/IMG_1425.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5490099560694970210" />Sarah B.http://www.blogger.com/profile/13989700723759907138noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6051590011454624962.post-3235683878321423322010-06-06T17:54:00.000-07:002010-06-06T18:17:24.949-07:00NICU Reunion 6/5/10The Barroso family attended the NICU Reunion this past Saturday, and it was quite fun. We got to see some of the nurses and doctors that helped take such great care of Syler while he was in the NICU/CCN. They were all so happy to see him and so excited to see how far he has come.

Just driving to the hospital, parking in the parking lot, and walking into the building, brought back so many feelings, emotions, and memories; feelings, emotions and memories that we will someday share with Syler. There are not enough thank you’s we can say to the staff to show them just how much we appreciate everything they did for Syler.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFEhxJm6y5YZdmOqK84JG1R43dI0OZom4LKGwIe4Rc-91TuenLTz1AEREDrVkbEYiOsy2IhKDtHGe8XlP0eLnGcPCXDiuYPMXf05PW6p65QSOv5O0wG0YPV3mv07yV3BksgXXxsQ_21oOu/s320/IMG_1354.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5479832902600406546" /> Syler and Sam. Ever since Syler has been born, my dad has been anxiously waiting to take Syler to the farm to show him the animals. Here are a couple picks from Syler and Dziadziu’s farm adventure.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipCpmlFWZbkUyXs2dhO79yrAuPad_zD9LpUYCDpjhjs75P_fpDQVlBqAmiEjZ5YMed2RJeT8h6798Pmc18QKabEb2HlMDVGBCv7RhTNiIgMmxptqERsqBm0BfDXHSakRix68JbS_oNSfEH/s320/IMG_1313.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5478739126614903378" /> Feeding the chickens.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgC68f-t3oCNmRZNFbcmiL93PXxVHQcDFGCvBotAOAUc5aKC8PU9TIBlRQMDSND_zbzYU_86H900_jjxvxZF88my8zR223t8p-XI2B__j_eOI8mBlJWz8ReD9F_VvESvGcRkhGOkef-S_AU/s320/IMG_1320.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5478739131635112146" /> Looking at the cows.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYsbaEcxkf0sHbJKtQwH9bzjtJTXk3eCe54tao4IrHQXodK3ygP40YHDl0KviRllwqUHKKXbzu0Lvo8Q3pH0PH90hh57ndnJovcW1BvTCvKUDbA_fIrOwBSQalof4LeHOuGlK3HOkYHGvU/s320/IMG_1324.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5478739138869032050" /> Dziadziu telling Syler that the next time he comes to visit, he will get to ride the tractor.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQPiNDt5QE4KH3MYp8cYdlCT1MwERVeCPmixO7e13xfdLqZY86k2InVtBFnD77XsVNBBw0yLLf78vPWBo9mxybsWGvpaa4ysd607SG6XMwiEd2puJr2jlAxK-UYqWvkdCVJ90QXckRS4Gb/s320/IMG_1328.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5478739143627754898" /> Dziadziu & Syler

Being Syler's 1st trip to the farm and really his first time seeing animals other than Max and the cats, he really didn't know what to make of everything.Sarah B.http://www.blogger.com/profile/13989700723759907138noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6051590011454624962.post-86457192399990656162010-06-03T19:08:00.000-07:002010-06-03T19:18:53.334-07:0010 months old!!!!<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHv08snqXJkxxYyuLwq32pX-Nng3NAVmDfr99YWVWgHq_DM718mhLD-rk-BpfLEMK5T8fEngZwcxMr7xV1lKugPhg7DUrIs7zGd-k5gdH-I1sQ9HuCqX3kd4LABcdlGiO2HuPeVK4QswFd/s320/IMG_1330.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5478735995875575970" />

10 months old!

This month has FLOWN by! I can’t believe that I am already writing Syler’s 10 month old update. I feel as though I just wrote his 9 month yesterday. So my little munchkin is 10 months old!!!!!!!!!! A lot has happened this month in the sense that he has grown so much; developmentally and physically.

What are Syler’s likes right now at 10 months? Well I’ll tell ya.
- Watching daddy mow the lawn. He loves it and gets excited when I first bring him outside to watch. Once he is outside, he just stares at Miguel walking back and forth across the lawn. And, every once and a while he will get this burst of excitement and he will scream and dance.
- Cars, trucks and wheels. (or pretty much anything on wheels) Syler loves to watch cars drive by. He has this fascination with wheels. If I put his umbrella stroller next to the wheel of my car and put him in the stroller, he immediately starts to touch it and examine it. When I move him away he stares at it. He will also stare at the wheels on his umbrella stroller. As he is being pushed, he will just lean over and stare at them. He tries to touch them, but can reach.
- Sitting. If it is not nap/bed time, Syler wants to be on the move.
- Speaking of being on the move, Syler is like a nascar driver when it comes to him being in his walker. Miguel and I wear sandal around the house because it HURTS when Syler runs our toes over with his walker.
- Trying to play with Max, or should I say, chase Max while Syler is in his walker. Max on the other hand does not like this very much and runs away.
- Tummy time!!!! Finally!!!!!!!! Syler will stay on his stomach for extended periods of time now, which is wonderful. In addition, he has started to army crawl.
- Toys, Toys, Toys or anything that he can put in his mouth, shake or bang with his hands.
- Exploring! Syler is constantly exploring and looking for new and interesting things. He especially likes the frig and dishwasher. Once we open the door, he flies towards it and grabs onto a shelf before we have the opportunity to close the door. Oh, and the dishwasher. His fascination with this makes the duty of doing dishes very difficult because he is always trying to do anything from eat the door to pulling dishes out.
- Reading. I have always said that Syler enjoys books and reading, but now when he is read to, he actually sits attentively and listens. He looks at the book, watches my mouth move while I read and grabs and studies the pages. Sometimes he tries to eat the books too ☺
- I mentioned this in my last post and it is still the same. Talking and screaming. More often than not, there is some kind of noise coming out of Syler’s mouth. The noises range from mama and dada to, which is a new sound, chirping or a short, high-pitched scream. He sounds like a little baby bird.
- Pulling hair. Syler absolutely loves this, and I absolute don’t like this… Since Miguel doesn’t have any hair, Syler likes to bang on his bald head.
- Sticking tongue in food. This is a recently new thing. When Syler is getting close to being done eating, he will, first, press his lips again the spoon, then, stick his tongue in the food. Once he has done that, he will eat the food.
- Playing pee-a-boo. SO cute! He enjoys pulling his blanket over his face then pulling it off waiting for me to say pee-a-boo!! He smiles every time.
- Max. I think Max and Syler’s love for each other is growing… Max allows Syler to touch him more and Syler lets Max lick him more. Max also tries to get Syler to play with him when Syler is walking around.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYo_0oxoqV73S_kprCEBvVVSSfGYh8aZGPnJg_ljVfDHk3V7FSrZHkdf1IzFaIENruZ605_aslUCMF-r6ZAtBvb6PkFEm2K14fbzMKakWAF9oOE3VEFFNzfKmwJDsUrbZ2u1YtpNbGMaxR/s320/IMG_1294.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5478736368614393874" />

Dislikes:
- Same as last post. Syler HATES, simply hates, having his face cleaned after eating. As soon as I take off the bib, he starts to cry, hide his face and try his hardest to avoid the process all together.
- When we say no or take something away from him that he wants to play with but can’t.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEDVw4sU_EoMWzp4p-Ry8YLz6VQzAt5d_GQwr1eNXT5jngSrbaQPWclKJE4dUGFWA_ppEtG6seWKesDiY5_k0PnyoC9wJmkvh8kTsLWRu7YGOBKvVhAlf05AhAh7vEMco7sHbOJ9waVIWo/s320/IMG_1273.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5478736961627161218" />

New:
- Walking… Even though he is too unstable to walk on his own, he will gladly walk while holding your hands. It is quite funny because sometimes his feet don’t move as fast as the rest of his body and he will topple over.
- I mentioned this earlier, but army crawling. Syler has all the motions/movements to crawl; he just needs to put them all together. But for now what he does is this. Once he is placed on his stomach, he will walk his feet up as high as he can, which causes him to stick his butt high in the air. At this point, he will army crawl his arms out until he is flat on his stomach again. He will repeat this until he has reached his destination or got the object he want.
- Mimicking. Syler will mimic noises and facial expression you make at him. It’s quite cute!
- We are hearing all sorts of new 2 syllable, 2 letter words.
- Protesting/tamtruming… If Miguel or I take something away from him that he is not suppose to have or prevent him from getting into something he is not suppose to, he will scream, cry, protest, tamtrum
- Make the association with mama and dada. I think he is starting to associate me with mama and Miguel with dada…
- Oh, and still no teeth.
- I am starting to plan Syler’s 1st birthday party.. HOLY COW!!!! ALREADY!!!!!!

Moment of the month:
There is not a day that goes by that Syler doesn’t make me smile. I LOVE that! ☺

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6mzp1RFO8YZDhewXn-vVQldi4HYVtnitdfmds_tuT9tdlLjSnZePR0Pjix4xKnYaFpULe1mwEF-0eHtOMA1YDh4WHzHoi9DePdQwsBmjylzZT0n_kZXF7-t_j6UaQ3wSa0GvkQjvO531M/s320/IMG_1263.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5478736630395877330" />Sarah B.http://www.blogger.com/profile/13989700723759907138noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6051590011454624962.post-47998432440168659922010-05-10T18:21:00.000-07:002010-05-10T18:42:52.709-07:009 months old!!!!!!!!<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiC6LlWPQfLaBctnrGZOgzCAe6L66KA6-xYb0QqkUi6pGWQ6KPYZDPkbRpMhMtzj9j0JQBoZX6QgfrQi581yEbkZm9jf8KH5iVi_2oSN_vIZkiHVJvM8QvuGQQkLpZuzghVM3G3q5-9lTSR/s320/IMG_1101.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5469820496292340818" />

I waited to do this post because Syler had his 9 month Child Wellness visit today. Well, his visit went great! He is weighing in at 20 lbs, which puts him in the 50%-ile. Syler is measuring 29 inches long, which puts him in the 75%-ile. His head circumference is also normal. Syler didn't receive any shots today, but Syler did have his blood drawn, which he did not like. He did cry through the process and gave the phlebotomist a look of death a few times, but he did a good job otherwise. The doctor is very happy with his development and health.

So, on May 2nd Syler turned 9 months old!!!!! I can’t believe that in 3 months we will be throwing his 1st birthday bash!!!! It has been pretty amazing month because he is constantly changing, developing, and learning.

*Likes*
~ Sitting. This child hates to lay down, especially to have his diaper changed. We have to give him a toy of some sort to keep him occupied while we change his diaper. I think that if he had his choice, he would sleep sitting up.
~ Mr. Bear (safari teddy bear) or as Auntie Melissa likes to call him, Me Bear. I know I have written about him in other blogs, but he still is a constant toy for him. He goes everywhere with Mr. Bear and falls asleep with Mr. Bear’s paw in his mouth. There has been 2 separate occasions when Miguel and I have almost lost him. Both times we were at a mall and both times we were able to retrace our steps and find him. But, if by chance we do lose Mr. Bear, Miguel and I have purchased 4 more bears. So, we should be good until about age 5.
~ His walker!!! This kid flies around the house as if he is in a nascar race. There are even times he will get a running start, pick up his feet then just soars the rest of the way. Oh, and don’t get in his way because you just may loose a toe or get smashed in the ankle. He also gets really frustrated if he gets stuck, but he will continuously adjust the walker until he is able to get through.
~ Panting like a dog, which is something he learned from Max. Syler will stick his arms straight out, open his mouth really wide, scrunch his nose, furrow his brow and just pant, hard. This is something we will have to get on video because it is quite funny.
~ This isn’t a like. This is a LOVE. Syler absolutely LOVES his dada. He always wants to be with him and stares at his all the time.
~ I can’t stay this is a complete 100% like, but Syler doesn’t seem to mind being on his tummy and doing tummy time. We have been pushing more tummy time to work on crawling. Crawling hasn’t come yet, but he does a really good job pushing up and even sometimes pushes himself backwards.
~ Toys!! Syler loves playing with his toys. He had this one toy ball that dings every time you hit it. So, Syler repeatedly bangs the ball against his chest to hear it ding. I also think this is his way of seeing if the ball will make the same noise every time he hits it against his chest.
~ Talking and screaming!!! There are times where Syler will just look at you and give this high-pitched scream. We are also hearing a lot of new sounds.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizX3G9SU82clplKi4PpnJApHAab7qtmp_xlSD0aoqHw259COvbRWIQYhee9lMX2oDVwQxG6HRUFGRk0FpoRZpzzwyLPK9DCJpXdh9H68hEsQV9owfnk76pFrq5o_p58elYElJ5oyfUN09C/s320/IMG_1119.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5469820508420106610" />

*Dislikes*
~ Syler continues to HATE having his face and nose cleaned. He starts to whine, cringe and turn his head as soon as he seems you coming with a towel.

*New*
~ No teeth yet!
~ We have officially switched Syler to formula. He didn’t like Similac or Enfamil, but he does like the generic kind from Walmart.
~ We have begun swimming classes. We are 2 weeks in and Syler loves it. He is the youngest in his class and may not get the songs we sing, but enjoys being in the water.
~ You may see Syler in a commercial or in a magazine. Syler has been accepted into a modeling agency located in Boston. A special ed. Supervisor of mine suggested that we submit some pictures. So, I did the research, we sent some pictures with a ‘resume`’ and waited to see what would happen. We sent in his pictures with the attitude of if it happens it happens, if not, no big deal. So, we were a little surprised when we received a letter saying he was accepted. Now we wait and see.
~ While Syler is in his walker, he likes to pick the whole thing up.
~We have also practiced walking. We will stand him up, hold his hands and he will just start walking.
~ Eating more solids and feeding himself. It is so cute when he tries to feed himself. He will pick up a puff, shove his whole hand in his mouth, but when he pulls out his hand, the puff is still stuck to his hand or it falls out of his mouth. Its kind of funny.
~ Facial expressions. The amount of facial expression Syler has developed has just exploded over this past month.

* *Moment of the month**
I absolutely LOVE walking into Syler’s room first thing in the morning and being greeted with such a happy smiling face. No matter what, it happens every morning, and it just melts my heart!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6mu2QqzbERAZyMc-bNjGK7E7ZQBHLKUqZNKuLo1VNSSFvC5xur-wmXJO4w6S5CUEXsLaT5mNp-i89rciQEwKScWfrlC8WTcGzPAsLVXwntzJ63ccu8Ib1WWFUyDIf7S7Emqmf-CJgTX-q/s320/IMG_1110.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5469820505420226306" />Sarah B.http://www.blogger.com/profile/13989700723759907138noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6051590011454624962.post-39302483818591977252010-04-04T16:34:00.000-07:002010-04-04T16:47:24.630-07:008 months old!!!!!!!<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhc98LQULOvOOoZtVu7Ea2AJwCZRw4sWXNP26pDKKuqnYPDs2foMqw_9dXIjLorY-5vR9jC0vWQHFxK2wWYnO0cj6cPLzvUKY9wHUlcyVTL-Dz60iWPuDpn36asgmV8FKOIXAYfXfHPNvlq/s320/IMG_0205.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5456432990635721330" />

Syler turned 8 months old!!!! Here’s what is going on.
~ Syler is now a champ when it comes to walking in his walker. Just recently he started going forwards, and will walk towards you if you squat down, stick your arms out and say come to me.
~ Syler is holding the bottle more, but still hasn’t mastered the idea of tilting it up to get the milk.
~ Syler is eating more solids.
~ Syler has mastered the skill of sitting up. He doesn’t really need a spotter anymore, and tips over every once and a while. He is also great at catching himself or correcting himself when he feels himself tipping over.
~ There was one day where Syler said “Dada” on 3/18/10, but he hasn’t said it since..
~ He is more interested in looking at and listening while you read a book to him.
~ Syler reaches now. If you hold toys above his head or if you stand above him while he is in his walker and put your arms out while saying up. He will stand on his tippy toes and stick his arms straight out. SO cute!
~ Syler has developed a great attachment to his Safari teddy bear. He loves having it at bedtime. It has become a security blanket for him.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRbu6d2wiybTnahbbYP5JvnRWGRCwVRsg375p0YV-tNbAObrL65pkc32XwC6Ee7FZbreIHadI6VZeDLsgq_6Nwo-fCO8Wegl5kfUnegP07IDjzVDeXk4JzZEcAp7uIySgvRvd8ej5QX7oo/s320/IMG_1044.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5456431479197410674" />

~ Syler has developed a new feeling/emotion: frustration. He gets frustrated if a toy is just out of reach or gets stuck while in his walker.
~ It is so cute. When Syler is falling asleep, he will play with his hair with his left and while using his right hand to push his right ear forward (only if he doesn’t have his bear)
~ Syler hates having his nose and face cleaned!!! Hates it. He starts to whine when he sees you walking toward him with a wet towel. He really hates having his nosed cleaned. He will shake his head back and forward, making it very difficult to clean his nose.
~ We continue to work on his pincher grasp by giving him cheerios or Puffs.
~ We have heard a new sound from Syler. The new sound is “Lalala”
~ Syler recently (3/26/10) rolled from back to tummy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAY!!!
~ We have also been working on crawling. Syler will stay on his tummy for a while now, which is a huge improvement for him. We will put him on his tummy and put a toy just out of his reach. He will reach for it and kick his legs but doesn’t go anywhere. So funny! But, he will kind of move himself in a circle.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpBnlT_NLDf3LmoUps0cv2bKC9fewQE2DuXvE1bR0hBgTm-tJ6DglzkRxd9Yt_AVNm1yPesn6wnGzM62hHCrJfPhTbbqcR1fn_OQz2doU8Wcs45h-CgszeqZj1OMoWShwiYNfpS8cWoZl5/s320/IMG_0239.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5456431491838401666" />

~ No doctors appointments recently. His 9 month appointment is in May. Miguel did measure him the other day and Syler measured at 28 inches. He is not getting any shots at that appointment, but will have blood drawn.
~ Sleeping difficulties. Ever since day light savings time, Syler has been having difficulty sleeping. He wakes up multiple times during the night, but still naps well. We have tried to come up with other reasons on why his sleeping pattern would change and day light savings is the only thing we can come up with. We thought maybe a tooth was breaking through, but NOTHING. This kid has been ‘teething’ since he was 3 months old and nothing is coming in.
~ Miguel and I have recently started transitioning Syler to formula. My ability to produce milk is close to being done. I am not really producing enough to get him through the day, and we have used the last of our frozen supply of breastmilk the other day, so we are working in formula. How is he doing you ask, not good. If we give him a bottle of just formula, he spits it out as soon as he tastes it and refuses to take the bottle. If we mix it with breastmilk or rice/oatmeal cereal, he seems to take it better. So we will keep you updated on this situation.
~ I have been looking into different programs for Syler, and I have found a swimming class at one of the local YMCA’s. So, Syler and I will be signing up for that swimming class. There are a few different programs at the local libraries, but those programs are usually held in the morning, so we have to way until summer vacation to really get involved with those. But, we will attend a couple during Spring break.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaKQhvxwxLwrhDkJ1P10eOPhQzl9CWgIyNuTLOXKEF5pUKALJEu7nKV7YVMjHSkVuUo8slQgPPDcYAl3vCBNsckavtBGvg4rPYDmQOiMSDDLiEVCq-edo6DpaT2t-kw77rQ8xU3e7P4u4G/s320/24164_1316905256795_1655646369_749721_6996293_n.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5456432988765024882" />Sarah B.http://www.blogger.com/profile/13989700723759907138noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6051590011454624962.post-89947688216646130132010-03-22T18:01:00.000-07:002010-03-22T18:25:21.925-07:00Fun in the sun!This past Saturday was so nice, Miguel, Syler and I decided to meet up with some great friends, Jen (Miguel's cousin) and Shannon (Jen's partner) and have lunch in Northampton. We met Jen and Shannon at the Northampton Brewery, which is known for its homemade beer and great food, and then we did some window shopping before getting some very delicious homemade ice cream at Herrell's. It was nice enjoying a weekend day with my husband and catching up with some great people. Syler turned 7 months old last week!!! Holy cow!!!! It hit me a little bit that in just a few short months he is going to be 1 years old.. Wow!!! He is getting so big so fast. I simply can’t believe it.
What’s going on with Syler.

Likes:

- Talking: Syler is a BIG talker. He takes after his daddy in this area. We hear a lot of ba, ma, ah, ha etc.
- The color RED. Syler LOVES anything that is red: toys, balloons, cups, plates, my nalgene bottle.
- Baths: Syler loves taking a bath. He is constantly kicking his legs while in the bath.. Too funny!
- Toys toys, toys. Syler loves toys
- Books, books, books.. He loves being read to and he is also at the stage where he grabs the books and eats them.
- Sleeping… I swear this kid is a lazy teenager inside.. He loves sleeping. Not that I am complaining.
- Oatmeal cereal. Kid can’t get enough.
- Baby food… Mainly vegi’s. He does have his favorite fruits though. He really likes pear’s and banana’s.
- Sitting in his car seat and riding in the car. Syler has always enjoyed riding in the car, but would most definitely fall asleep within a few minutes. Now, he seems to stay awake longer and enjoys looking out the window, which is the cutest thing. He also has this toy that attached to the handle of the car seat that he likes to play with.
- Still loves his bouncer, but I think we are starting to hit the stage where he is growing out of his bouncer. So Miguel and I need to figure out what we are going to do and how we are going to transition him out of the habit of using it.
- Syler likes chewing on and holding his spoon after he eats.
- Recently, Syler has started noticing himself in mirrors. He stares at himself and sometimes smiles.

Dislikes:

- I have to say that Syler’s BIGGEST dislike is having his face cleaned after eating. He hates this.
- Syler’s next biggest dislike is having his nose cleaned/picked. He just absolutely hates this too.
- Tummy time: This is just an ongoing thing, but now that Sy knows how to roll over, he immediately tucks his arm and rolls as soon as we put him on his belly.
- At the moment, and hopefully it is just a phase, but Syler has a growing dislike for drinking from a bottle. This has been a growing dislike over the past couple of weeks. So the majority of his milk intake is through rice or oatmeal cereal.

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgb7Q2V59RE_wSJwf9pSpdBHuDgd6htg9L7ksCxLVn5XZRUFPb2qOXCzzvMQlZ732AkkmH5w9xLtT1IyV0AqgwgaQpbFQPIaiMo2V6fFTOmoszqm33eH-Xh0-Kd-ugEPivTeU6054nJJzoM/s320/IMG_0899.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5446826084270284578" />

What’s new/updates:

- Over February break Syler said Mama!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was so excited!!!!
- He also is able to sit up on his own (with just a little spotting to make sure he doesn’t take a hard tumble).
- Baby signing videos: We, Syler and I, have started watching signing videos. He gets excited when the video comes on and he seems to really enjoy them.
- Starting solids. Syler has had a taste of chicken and pasta. Both of which the doctor suggested to start with. Watching Syler eat these things is kind of funny because he is not quite sure what to do with it. It doesn’t squish in his mouth and he has no teeth to chew it, so it usually ends up coming out of his mouth and rolling (sliding with the drool) down his chin.
- Syler’s grasping ability has gotten much better. He is able to pass objects form one hand to the other, grasp objects with only one hand, bring these items to his mouth. He reaches for items and, sometimes, gets frustrated when he can’t reach something.
- Mentioned in previous posts; Syler is over the dislike of having his winter hat put on or sitting at red lights.
- Syler continues to do a great job sleeping in his crib.
- Stranger Anxiety: We have come to the stage where Stranger Anxiety has set in. We have learned, after he screamed in Dziadziu’s face when I passed him over, that Syler needs a couple of minutes to ‘size up’ the other person before he will comfortably go to that person. Once he has had that opportunity to feel that person out, he is fine. And, if he is not okay once we pass him over, we just simply take him back, let him reset, and then give him back. Then he is usually fine.
- No new news in the teething department. He is still drooling a lot, but nothing has broken through yet.
- We started putting Syler in his walker this month. He doesn’t really do much in it except play at this moment. He does push himself backwards, but nothing to get too excited about.

Next post: Syler's favorite toys

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEje-LNFi_6xNdgj9_qzcZGHZY3rK1BrGNI-iu2Gr-lqx8VnKXz1xkwzqWsX_IyTL-sKcJTlCDmQoZ9N0pXia5czYBddamjcrH-5UkDIcgideTGtq-kej8fa6mONP9i520Xdw5VUEaUotPtV/s320/IMG_0908.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5446826534709678770" />Sarah B.http://www.blogger.com/profile/13989700723759907138noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6051590011454624962.post-88826948384931142402010-02-09T17:38:00.000-08:002010-02-10T14:10:42.360-08:006 month doctors visitA couple days late getting this post up, but Sy went to the doctors on Monday for his 6 month Child Wellness Visit and his 6 month vaccines. The doctor's appointment went really well. Syler is weighing in at 17 lbs 6 oz and measures at 26 inches long. Both of which place him in the average range for his age. Awesome!!!! The doctor is happy with how Syler is developing and growing. There is only one area that we need to work on, and that is strengthening his back muscle. The doctor wasn't overly concerned about the lack of strength and his minor inability to sit without support. So we simply just need to place him in the sitting position without support, just spotting. We also discussed with the doctor Syler's lack of interest in drinking milk from the bottle. Over the past week and a half he has been consuming less and less milk from the bottle, but devouring his cereal and or baby food. So, the doc said to get stage 2-3 nipples, which will allow more milk to come out of the nipple at once. We will try new nipples.

Next came the vaccines. Even though it is not the most pleasurable thing for either parent or child, I must say that Syler handled this round of shots like a champ. He only cried at the initial pinch of the needle and that was it. Then afterwords he was happy as a clam. Once shots were done. We were done... Sy's next appointment isn't for another 3 months, and the nice thing is he won't be getting any shots then, just some blood drawn.Sarah B.http://www.blogger.com/profile/13989700723759907138noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6051590011454624962.post-3749504475802153282010-02-09T17:17:00.000-08:002010-02-09T17:37:30.152-08:00The time has come.....Well, I think the time as a milk producing mama is slowly coming to an end. This past month and a half my milk production has decreased drastically. I am not sure if it was because I went away for 3 days in late December and I wasn't able to pump nearly as much as I did prior to the trip, or if it is just my body saying my time is ending. Am I happy about this......... NO, and I'm disappointed. I was hoping that I would be able to produce milk until Syler was about 8 months to a year old. I have tried everything from eating more oatmeal, drinking ensure, pumping more and drinking Yogi Tea for Nursing Mothers (all recommended either from Circle of Moms or from co-workers). None of which helped. So, as long as I can produce enough to get him the recommended 24-32 ounces of milk a day we won't have to do formula, otherwise, formula it is until he turns a year old.Sarah B.http://www.blogger.com/profile/13989700723759907138noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6051590011454624962.post-63614937665138823172010-02-02T20:37:00.000-08:002010-04-04T16:47:45.790-07:006 months old!!!!!!!!!!!!!<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0WhTynYJlnXc9AOwHwgNkPYAZvmrRLAtUd96XkKKyS14Zzb3lJq-pmnxgxtGwYpMWMGkzAgoJQnDksORn4qzWSaLl6q8_20sD1s9G4NOvt2ZiqAFyRPtUqcoakvDwT3XyePrkyzshJfYT/s320/IMG_0884.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5434115167752955378" />

WOW!!!!!!!!! I cannot believe that Syler is already 6 months old!!!. It feels like just yesterday Miguel and I were driving back and forth to the hospital every 3 hours to visit Sy in the CCN/NICU. But, today he is a happy/healthy little clam enjoy his little baby life.

*Likes:
~ Teething Rings and any toy her can put in his mouth. Yes folks he is at the stage where he puts anything in his mouth.
~ Still loves his orange deer, but he has a 2 new loves. A little white bear headed blanket and an Eric Carle Elephant that hits all 5 senses.
~ Sitting up: Lately, Syler prefers to sit up and play rather than lying in his back.
~ Taking a bath. Sy loves taking baths. He splashes and squeals the whole time.
~ Bouncer: Syler still loves his bouncer, but we feel he is started to outgrow the bouncer. So we are starting to transition him to other things like his boppy.
~ Books & reading: Syler continues to enjoy reading, which is just fabulous. He seems to be more interested in the books themselves. He tries to hold them, put them in his mouth and turn the pages.
~ Talking: Holy chatterbox let me tell you. Yes, he is taking after his daddy in this department. Besides hearing lots of goo’s, ga’s, gurgles, and ah’s, we also hear ma, ba, ga, oo, la, ha. Syler also makes this noise very similar to the noise of Chubaka, but just a baby version.
~ Giggles: Syler has definitely developed his ability to giggle, which you can see a video of him giggling away on a previous post. I must say baby giggles and laughter is thee best sound in the world!
~ Watching things: Syler LOVES watching and is fascinated by the cats and dog. Whenever they come near him he just stares at them, and he follows them with his eyes as they walk away.
~ Touching/Petting: Because our cats, especially Oscar, are so friendly we are able to get Sy close enough to wear he can touch and “pet” (more like grab chunks of their hair) them.
~ Syler’s grabbing has greatly improved. He is able to reach, grasp, pass items from one hand to the other and his movements are much smoother.
~ Sitting up: Syler’s ability to sit up has also improved. He needs very little assistance sitting now, which is great, and as I mentioned above, he rather sit than lay on his back.
~ I had mentioned in my last birthday update that Syler doesn’t like getting dress. I must say this has improved greatly. He doesn’t mind having cloths pulled over his head, but he doesn’t like having the cloths bunched up around his neck while waiting to have his arms put through the sleeves.

*Dislikes:
~ Tummy time: I am still hoping that some day Syler will like tummy time, but right now he still pretty much hates it. I do have to stay that when we place him on his belly he doesn’t immediately cry. Only after about a minute or two does he start to cry. But, what he does do it as soon as we place him on his belly he arches his back, sticks his arms straight out to the side, locks his legs and pretends he is superman. We can just rock him back and forth on his belly. Pretty cute!!!
~ Syler doesn’t like having his hat put on once he is in his car seat. Not quite sure why.
~ Syler is still not a fan of red lights.

*New/Updates:
~ Since Syler was born, maybe even a little while before he was born, I have been toying around with the idea of teaching Syler how to sign. Well, after spending some time with some friends, Sean and Becky, and their son, Colin, I have decided to teach Sy how to sign. I made my final decision after watching Colin sign a little bit and after seeing the signing video Colin enjoys watching.
~ Miguel and I took Syler to get his 6 month old pictures taken. We went to Target because their picture packages were the least expensive and they take a pretty good picture. Well, Syler did a great job and it was so much fun. The photographer was great and this is where we learned the “Ah Boo” trick you can see in the video I posted my last post. The photographer saying that to Syler was the golden ticket to get him to smile, and he did more than smile each time. He also gave her lots of giggles.
~ On January 30, 2010, Syler finally rolled over. I have been waiting for this since I read in a book that babies can start to roll over from age 3 month on. So since he turned 3 month I have been waiting for him to roll over. He finally did and I think my excitement startled him more than him actually rolling over. As soon as he did, I started cheering and clapping because I was only a little excited, hehehehe ☺
~ Syler has found his feet and toes, both of which he really enjoys licking and putting them in his mouth.
~ Along with finding his feet and toes, Syler has also found his thumb. Sucking his thumb has not become a habit yet and hopefully won’t. But he also enjoys sucking on all of his fingers too.
~ Baby food: Well, this month we started giving Syler baby foot. Of course we gave him vegetables first for the fear that if we gave fruit first he wouldn’t eat/like any veggie’s. He seems to like veggies a little more than fruit. He doesn’t like applesauce or carrots, but loves pears.
~ Syler still remains (knock on wood) on a pretty consistent sleeping pattern. He goes to bed around 9-9:30 and wakes up around 7-7:30. He sleeps straight through the night. He continues to take one long nap in the morning and then 1 to 2 naps after that. Miguel and I have been very lucky in the sleeping department.
~ Along with his sleeping well, Syler is also sleeping in his crib. We transitioned him into his crib a few weeks back because he was getting too big for the bassinet. We started him out a couple of nap times and nights sleeping in the pack-n-play because it was just a little bigger than the bassinet, but after a few nights in that and Sy doing really well, we just moved him right into his crib. He has been doing absolute great!
~ No new news in the teething department.

** Up coming post: back to work/daddy day care/ tia’s house, doctors & fungus, 6 month vaccines.**Sarah B.http://www.blogger.com/profile/13989700723759907138noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6051590011454624962.post-2258853820636302012010-02-02T19:29:00.001-08:002010-02-02T19:31:00.410-08:00Ah Boo!!!!
Ah Boo!!! from Sarah Barroso on Vimeo.

6 month post coming soon!!!!!Sarah B.http://www.blogger.com/profile/13989700723759907138noreply@blogger.com1
